The City of Menlo Park is now hiring full-time program assistants. The City of Menlo Park currently is hiring two full-time program assistant positions in the Gymnastics Division and one full-time program assistant position in the Recreation Division. Additionally, this recruitment will be used to create an eligibility list future openings in the program assistant job classification. Interested and qualified candidates should apply now.

Program assistants support the coordination and administration of a variety of Library and Community Services programs and services such as: youth and adult activities, senior services, special events, library programs and general community services; performs a variety of routine administrative duties requiring knowledge of the assigned program and/or division and its procedures, policies and operational details; provides information to the public and staff; provides assistance for a variety of assignments related to monitoring of budgets, assisting with contracts and other administrative tasks; maintains program records and reports; fosters cooperative working relationships with various community resources, public assistance, health and social services agencies; and performs related duties as required.

Library and Community Services is responsible for providing exceptional recreational, educational and cultural experiences for children, adults and seniors. Our facilities include 221 acres of parkland distributed among 13 parks, two libraries, three community centers, two public pools, three child care centers, two gymnasiums and one gymnastics center. Included in the parks and recreation areas are tennis and pickleball courts, dog parks, softball diamonds, picnic areas, playgrounds, soccer fields, a skate park, shared use of a performing arts center and open space.

  • Ability to successfully provide program and administrative support to the recreation coordinator and Library and community services supervisor with recreation, sports and other public services
  • Ability to seamlessly balance day-to-day tasks with long-term and seasonal projects

Minimum qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Two years of experience working in a recreation, community services, library, and/or special education environment as well as administrative support experience. Bachelor’s degree in recreation, social services, library services, child care or related field preferred.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license by time of appointment.
  • For certain positions, ability to obtain American Red Cross First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate. Must maintain and renew certification per the American Red Cross guidelines.

Applications will be screened according to the qualifications outlined in this announcement. An eligibility list will be established as a result of this examination process and will be valid for a period of six months. The list may be extended up to a maximum of two years. The hiring department will review the eligibility list to determine which candidates will be invited to the department selection process.
