The Menlo Park City Council's Rail Subcommittee provides input and oversight related to each of these projects. The City Council adopted a rail policy(PDF, 33KB) to guide decisions regarding rail projects.
The Caltrain modernization program includes efforts to electrify and upgrade the performance, operating efficiency, capacity, safety and reliability of Caltrain's commuter rail service.
The Dumbarton Rail Corridor Project would extend commuter rail service across the southern portion of the San Francisco Bay between the Peninsula and the East Bay. When the service starts, the rail corridor will link Caltrain, the Altamont Express, Amtrak's Capitol Corridor and BART, as well as East Bay bus systems, at a multimodal transit center in Union City.
The California High-Speed Rail Authority is responsible for planning, designing, building and operating the first high-speed rail system in the nation. Within the San Francisco to San Jose section, high-speed rail trains are proposed to travel at speeds up to 110 mph with up to four trains per hour. The high-speed rail system will use the Caltrain alignment from San Jose to San Francisco.
