The emergency preparedness information provided on this site has been made available to assist you in protecting your family and property in the case of an emergency situation.

COVID-19 pandemic

Menlo Park officials continue to monitor the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and have taken action to reduce public health risks to our community, program participants, employees and facilities.

Earthquakes

California is the highest earthquake risk area in the contiguous United States, with several large active faults that run through the state, such as the San Andreas, Hayward and others.

Emergency alerts

In the event of an emergency, official communications from the city's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be updated on the city website and shared through our official communications outlets including SMC Alert and our social media channels.

Excessive heat

Extremely hot weather can result in heatstroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, sunburn, heat rash, and in some instances death. Please take safety measures to stay safe and lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors.

Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) assesses hazard vulnerabilities and identifies mitigation actions that jurisdictions will pursue in order to reduce the level of injury, property damage, and community disruption that might otherwise result from such events.

Power outages

Power outages can occur for a variety of reasons including earthquakes, severe storms or public safety power shutoff. Putting together a power outage plan now can help protect your health and safety in the event of a power failure.

Storms and flooding

Are you ready for the next storm? You should know the potential for flooding or flash flooding in your neighborhood.

Wildfires and smoke

If you see or smell smoke in the immediate area, limit or avoid outdoor activity, including exercise.

Heat advisory issued for Tuesday, June 21; cooling centers to open

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Tuesday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid- to upper-90s resulting in an increased risk for those sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration.

Registration now open for Earthquake Brace + Bolt program

There are more than 1 million houses in high-hazard areas of California that are particularly vulnerable to earthquakes because of the way they were constructed. Many homeowners know their homes are at risk when an earthquake occurs but are unaware that they can help protect their homes with a seismic retrofit. Registration is now open for grants to secure homes in 395 high-hazard Zip codes.
