Kids Yoga

Ages 3–5

In this playful yoga class designed especially for preschool age children, children will learn yoga poses, breathing, and relaxation exercises which help to cultivate a calm mind, increase strength and flexibility, improve gross and fine motor skills, improve concentration, and help them understand how to identify and manage their feelings. Games, stories, and music will be incorporated into this fun, noncompetitive class. Each class will end with a period of relaxation. Children should bring their own yoga mat to class. Parents are encouraged to practice with their children as well! *Parent/caregiver must be present for class. No class July 4.

Arts and Crafts

Learn to Sew for Kids

Ages 8+

In this class, children 8 and older will learn how to use a sewing machine. We will make a customized pillowcase and a pair of pajama pants. If time allows we will make a third project. We will cover how to layout, pin, cut and sew pattern pieces. Everyone works at their own pace and get 1:1 help and guidance to finish the projects. This is a fun, stress-free environment that encourages learning new skills. A supply list will be provided approximately a week before the first class. A working sewing machine is needed for this class. Class to be offered free of charge to qualifying Menlo Park residents. Sewing machines can be rented for classroom use. $25 fee for a machine for the entire session. A supply kit with all materials needed to complete the projects are available for $25. Questions? Learn to Sew for Adults

Do you have a sewing machine and not know where to start? In this four-week class, we will layout and cut and sew a reversible apron, using a pattern. If time allows we will make a zippered bag. If you need help learning to use the features of your machine, you will get 1:1 help. This class is great for those that haven't sewn and want to learn or those that sewed a long time ago and need a refresher. You will learn a lot of tips and tricks to make your sewing journey easier and enjoyable. A supply list will be provided approximately a week before the first class. Intermediate Sewing for Adults

Intro to iOS App Development

Ages 14+

Interested in making iPhone apps but don’t know where to start? This class will introduce the fundamentals of creating an iOS app and include an interactive demo where you can experiment with building your own app. Free of charge to Menlo Park Residents. You will need to install Xcode on your MacBook. Bushin Ryu Aikijujitsu is a martial art system based on the dynamic techniques common to both Jujitsu and Aikido focusing on techniques and strategies for self-defense. Introductory Windsurfing

You’ve watched those on the Bay and seen those amazing pictures on magazine covers… now, you’re ready to try it! With an outstanding curriculum and the use of simulators, students will be sailing in a matter of hours! You’ll learn all the basics needed to get you out on the water safely. After class, students will be ready to rent the equipment and practice their new skills! Students should plan on getting wet so bring a swimsuit and change of clothes, towel, sunscreen, and shoes appropriate for wear in the water (no flip-flops). Introductory Sailing

Ages 14+

Take the helm and “sail away” in your own 14’ long sloop! Learn the basics needed to get you out on the water, safely maneuvering your sailboat around the Lake. After completing the course, students receive certification to rent boats on their own. Includes a one-hour private lesson to be scheduled following completion of the course. Swimsuit, change of clothes and a towel recommended. Bring sunscreen and wear closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops).

Adult Tennis Novice

A common question for many new players is where to begin with lessons and classes, and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) offers ratings for courses to help you decide what might be right for you. This course is rated a 2.5–3.0, which means after the course, you’ll be able to judge where the ball is going and you’ll be able to tackle a short rally with players that have the same basic ability. Beginner Traditional Karatedo – Seiwakai Silicon Valley

Ages 8+

Beginner participants learn traditional Karate from Okinawa Japan, focusing on kata, self-defense, sport kumite, awareness, sportsmanship, athletics and personal well-being. Training adopts science of the U.S. Olympic committee while following the standards of the Japan Karate Federation. Students may participate in local, regional and international competitions and have the opportunity to train in Japan and international seminars with the instructor. Drop in is $20 per session, offered Monday evenings. Additional fee for national, international membership and testing however memberships nor test participation is not required. Additional fee for (no mandatory) training equipment (white Karate uniform) suggested for participants wishing to continue training. No class July 6 or 13.
